Doll Buyer's Guide: Cosplay Pt 1

I have to admit one of the parts I’m looking forward to the most in having my first doll will be the endless possibilities that I will have in terms of cosplay.

Cosplay, if any of you don’t know, is also known as costume play. A popular activity where one dresses up as their favorite characters. Be it from Anime, Video games, comics, or movies. Now with your very own life size doll, you’ll be able to cosplay her to your heart's content! In this article we will go over the basics of choosing out your first cosplay outfit for your character, minor modifications, and then presentation.

Measurements

First up you’re going to want to pay close attention to your doll’s measurements. If you have a rather petite or thin doll this could make it easier to find clothing to fit with some minor or any alterations. However if you have a larger, bustier sized doll, that is going to be an issue when it comes to custom ordering outfits. If you custom order your cosplay outfit from an online shop, you will want to have this information ready in your email. However if you’re ordering a premade costume you may have to take it to get tailored in person. Which can be rather embarrassing. Best bet is to have it all made beforehand.

Even the best of measurements and premade tailoring can still leave some clothing feeling baggier or loose fitting on your doll. To fix these minor issues, having some clothing bins, can go a long way in resolving this issue. You can find clothing pins at any hobby store. Clothing pins also come in a variety of sizes and strengths to hold back thicker materials.

Pre-made Cosplay or Custom made

Depending on your budget you can choose to get pre-made clothing from a variety of online shops and locations. You can shop for budget items at any Halloween costume shop for your doll if you’re light on your purse. Since this is only going to be seen by you, then it shouldn’t be that big an issue. For example a premade 8 piece outfit below will run you 40.00 on Amazon.

However if you’re looking to do photography with your doll, then I would recommend looking for some custom cosplay shops online via Etsy. In the future 3DXDolls will work hand in hand with some shops to have an option for custom made clothing to go along with your purchase if you want to have that option. For example is custom made Black Widow Cosplay outfit runs almost $200.00

That's it for this part of this buyer's guide. Be on the look out for Part 4!
